Golden Road Driving Academy (G.R.D.A) is a northern Perth driving school built on one idea: teach every learner to be a safe driver for life, not just to pass a test. We teach automatic driving lessons across Alkimos, Butler, Clarkson, Joondalup and Perth's northern suburbs, and prepare learners for the Butler and Joondalup driving tests.

Why G.R.D.A exists
Founded on a promise: safer drivers on Perth roads
A note from our founder, Paul Singh.
For over a decade I worked in the federal public service as a Property Manager. I had a stable career, a routine, and a happy, active life with my wife and children. I thought my path was set.
Then, in 2023, my life changed in a split second. I was stopped in traffic on my morning commute when my car was violently rear-ended by a Kia Carnival. There was no screech of brakes, just the impact.
The driver was new to the country and had never had professional training on Australian roads or road rules. It wasn't malice. It was a lack of education, and it caused serious damage.
The aftermath
My car was written off, but the real damage was to my life. I was out of work for a full year, and my family drained our savings on taxis and Ubers just to get by.
The hardest part wasn't the money. The injury to my back took away my ability to run around and play sport with my children the way I used to. I'm fully fit to drive and instruct, but that accident took a part of my fatherhood I can never get back.
Turning pain into purpose
During that year of recovery I made a decision. I resigned from my government career. I didn't want to go back to a desk; I wanted to stop this from happening to anyone else.
I founded Golden Road Driving Academy with one mission: to make sure every GRDA student, whether they're a teenager or new to Australia, understands that a licence is a responsibility, not just a right.

Every Golden Road lesson follows the same standard: one-on-one, in a dual-control automatic car, planned around what you need to work on next.

No shouting and no pressure. Mistakes are explained clearly so you understand them and don't repeat them.

You learn to read the road, anticipate hazards and drive defensively, not just to tick off test items.
Local test knowledge
Lessons cover the roads, roundabouts and school zones around the Butler and Joondalup test centres.

Every Golden Road Driving Academy lesson is taught by a DoT-accredited instructor with a National Police Clearance and a Working With Children Check.

Questions about learning with Golden Road
Are your driving instructors accredited in WA?
Yes. Every Golden Road Driving Academy lesson is taught by a Department of Transport accredited driving instructor in Western Australia, who also holds a National Police Clearance and a Working With Children Check.
Do you teach nervous or anxious learner drivers?
Yes. Lessons are calm, patient and paced to suit you. Many of our students describe their lessons as calm and reassuring, especially when they were nervous at the start.
Do you teach people who are new to Australia?
Yes. We teach local learners and people who are new to Australia, with a focus on WA road rules, roundabouts and the habits that keep you safe on Perth roads.
Do you offer manual driving lessons?
No. Golden Road Driving Academy teaches automatic driving lessons only, in a dual-control automatic car.
Which areas do you cover?
We teach across Perth's northern suburbs, including Alkimos, Butler, Clarkson and Joondalup, and prepare students for the Butler and Joondalup driving test centres. Check our service area page for the full list of suburbs.
Can you help me get ready for my driving test?
Yes. We run DoT-criteria mock driving tests so you know exactly where you stand before your Practical Driving Assessment (PDA), and we can help you find a suitable test date.
