Then, in 2023, my life changed in a split second. I was on my morning commute, stationary in traffic, when my car was violently rear-ended by a Kia Carnival. There was no screech of brakes—just impact.
The driver was new to the country and had never received professional training on Australian roads or road rules. It wasn't malice, but a lack of education that caused catastrophic damage.
The Aftermath My car was written off, but the real damage was to my life. I was out of work for a full year. My family drained our savings on taxis and Ubers just to survive. But the hardest part wasn’t the money.
Due to the severe impact on my back, I lost the ability to run around and play sports with my children the way I used to. While I am fully fit to drive and instruct, that accident stole a precious part of my fatherhood that I can never get back.
Turning Pain into Purpose During that year of recovery, I made a decision. I resigned from my government career. I didn't want to just go back to a desk; I wanted to stop this from happening to anyone else.
I founded Golden Road Driving Academy with a single mission: To ensure that every student I teach—whether they are a teenager or new to Australia—understands that a licence is a responsibility, not just a right.
